After 17 weeks of competition and just one week remaining it was decided the Mount Isa Cricket Association cancel the grand final between the Panthers and the Black Stars without any hope of playing a delayed match.

The Mount Isa Cricket Association executive committee said they backed the advice given to them by Queensland Cricket.

"We have taken the decision to back Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia's advice to cancel all remaining 2019/20 season fixtures for both Juniors and Seniors effective immediately," the committee member said.

"The decision is one that has not been taken lightly, but it is a decision that we believe to be the right one. The health and safety of all our participants and the general community is our priority and we thank you all for understanding."

Black Stars captain Cameron Conlan said the players were going through all sorts of emotions right now.

"My personal view when hearing the news was I thought the game should've gone ahead," Conlan said.

"However I think ultimately the association has made the right decision to fall in line with all major governing bodies of sport in Australia.

"The sentiment of our club is this is not the way we would've liked to win the premiership. I feel for the Panthers team as I would hate to lose a grand final like that but nevertheless we will celebrate regaining the trophy and view it as a reward for our club for being consistent over a number of years."

Panthers captain Ben Ryan said he agreed with MICA's decision to scrap the grand final.

"It sucks, but there's nothing we can do to make it go ahead," Ryan said.

" We all knew we were in for a very good chance of winning the trophy for a third year, which is pretty good considering we didn't get a win until the second half of the year."

The Black Stars were awarded the premiership due to wining the minor premiership.

The last time professional and local cricket was suspended was during World War II.
