The Federal Government enforced closures of beauty, nail massage and tattoo shops; while hairdressers and barbers are required to implement strict social distancing and 30 minute sessions per client.

Marnie Robertson said the restrictions on her business, Marnie's Hair, would mean big changes for the business.

"We have been constantly sterilising, so wiping down every chair, station, stool, surface, scissors, blowdrier, straightener, door handle, counter; to make sure there is no chance of contamination," Ms Robertson said.

"We can now only do a 30 minute service, from when the customer walks through the door. This is limiting us to men's and women's cuts and trims, no colouring."

Ms Robertson said at least 80 per cent of her client base was colouring hair.

"This is going to affect us greatly and really impact the business," she said.

"There are other salons putting together take-home packages, I may follow suit, but it just depends on what we are and aren't allowed to do under the new guidelines."

The new COVID-19 restrictions come into effect at midnight tonight (Wednesday March 25), and Ms Robertson is taking every opportunity to keep her customers happy.

"We are staying open until midnight, to service as many of our clients as we can," she said.

"We are almost fully booked and most of the clients are booked in for colours and taking that last opportunity for a salon colour."
