Overshadowed by the COVID-19 and often threatened to be postponed as the pandemic crisis worsened, the Queensland Council elections 2020 have limped to their conclusion.
Polls closed at 6pm and attendance was low at booths across Mount Isa on Saturday due to the pandemic and Electoral Commission Queensland say an extraordinary 55 per cent of the electorate voted early or applied for a postal vote.
The ECQ expects the counting and declaration process to take a little longer than usual. This is due to the unprecedented number of postal votes, as well as the social distancing measures that will be in place for the count.
That could mean we may not see a result tonight in particular races that might be tight.
Stay with us as we follow the results from Mount Isa and other councils in North West Queensland as they come to hand.
In Mount Isa there are three mayoral candidates and 16 councillor candidates vying for six spots.
In Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell has been reelected as he faced no opposition but 17 candidates are vying for five spots on Council as councillors.
We'll also be casting an eye over other smaller races in the region.
