Mark Watson, 58, was hit by a car while trying to cross Isa Street at the junction with Camooweal St just before 6.30pm on Wednesday and was later declared dead at Mount Isa Hospital.
The driver involved, a 19-year-old man, was not injured and police believe Mr Watson may have been with another man at the time of the incident but the other man left the scene prior to officers' arrival.
Friends and family held a vigil at the crash site on Thursday night and left flowers and cards by the side of the road in memory of Mr Watson, a former stockman from Doomadgee.
Anyone who has any information regarding the fatal incident should contact Policelink on 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
