The reunion and celebration associated with the Mount Isa Mines Cadetship Program (1964-1976) is currently being planned for mid-year 2021 in Mount Isa and organisers are seeking interest from those involved in the program.
Organiser Richard Collier said the year 2021 would also mark the 50th anniversary for cadets who started their fledgling mining careers with Mount Isa Mines in 1971 which was the largest intake year.
"Cast your minds back to the late 1960s and the quest for minerals worldwide meant demand was outstripping supply of mining technical professionals," Mr Collier said.
"The Mount Isa Mines Cadetship program had its beginnings in 1964 and was designed to provide inhouse skilled technical personnel in mine surveying, geology, metallurgy and geology, survey drafting, accounting, arts and mechanical and electrical drafting."
Mr Collier said the cadetship program was based around a four-year course of study material prepared by Queensland Technical Education and delivered by correspondence.
If you were involved in the cadetship program or know someone who was, please contact Richard Collier either by email (richard_lynn_c@hotmail.com) or via Facebook (Ex Mt Isans from the 70's Catch Up page).
