Two and a half weeks from election day, Flinders Shire has a newly elected council with recontesting mayor Jane McNamara returning to office.
After 80 per cent of votes were counted, Cr McNamara was declared mayor on Tuesday April 14 in the lead with 389 votes.
She outed two other candidates including, former councillor Graham Sealy on 277 votes and former 2016 mayor Greg Jones OAM on 242 votes.
Cr McNamara will be joined by six councillors including, Kelly Carter on 614 votes, Kim "Clancy" Middleton on 567, Clarrie Haydon on 551, Nicole Flute on 521, Arthur Bode on 485 and Trevor Mitchell on 479.
Cr McNamara congratulated the new elected councillors and thanked the mayoral opponents for a challenge.
"Congratulations to our new councillors who have been elected for the 2020 - 2024 term Niki Flute, Clarrie Haydon and Trevor Mitchell. I am sure that you will enjoy the challenge of being a councillor and will make a good contribution to the Flinders Shire during this term and beyond," she said.
"To my fellow candidates for the Mayor position Cr Graham Sealy and Greg Jones, thank you for the challenge of having three candidates for the very first time in the Flinders Shire. Democracy at work is always a good thing."
Cr McNamara also thanked everyone for their support during her time in council and the election including her family.
"I would personally like to thank all of you who have given me support, messages, encouragement and advice over the past four years and particularly in the past couple of months as we campaigned for this election. I am so much richer for your friendship and could not have kept focused on the job at hand and campaigned at the same time without your support.
"For all of your efforts I am very humbled and pleased to report that we succeeded in getting me elected for another term as your Mayor. Thank you.
"I need to thank my family for their very frank advice and blunt love to keep me grounded and never allowing me to forget that the Mayor is a servant of the Shire residents."
Cr McNamara promised to keep working tirelessly for the good of the shire, region and North West.
"I wish the Team of 2020 all of the very best for this term as we firstly battle the Coronavirus and keep our Council workforce working on what is needed to progress the Shire," she said.
"Thank you to the staff of the Shire, who are an amazing group of people for all that you do to work above and beyond what is needed. I look forward to planning, working and delivering the projects for economic growth and infrastructure delivery with us all working as Team Flinders"
