That's the message from the North West Hospital and Health Service who say this year it is even more important to be vigilant about the flu because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NWHHS said that while the flu vaccination does not prevent against COVID-19, vaccination is critical to protecting the general health of Australians, and it will also reduce the risk of a very dangerous double-up of flu and coronavirus, both diseases affecting the respiratory system.
Although there are strong national requirements to stay at home, it is permissible to leave home for medical or health care needs, including attending an appointment to get a flu vaccine.
This is an important action everyone can take to look after themselves and to further reduce potential hospital admissions, the NWHHS said.
The NWHHS said vaccines are now available in the community through regular providers such as GP and pharmacies however Pharmacy First Mount Isa say they are now only taking bookings for May and Amcal Mount Isa also has a waiting list.
