The NWHHS said that in preparation for COVID-19, they had have kicked off PPE training however given how precious it was the moment, they didn't want to waste it unnecessarily even when training.
Mount Isa Hospital nurse manager Ben Beard said they had been using sub-standard party masks for training purposes when a group of ladies came to the rescue.
"A lady called Emma Knight posted something on the Mount Isa Community page that we needed masks for training,' Mr Beard said.
"In the end around eight ladies came together to make the masks and others donated sewing machines and material."
Mr Beard said Emma and her volunteer crew were still making masks as they need up to 42 masks for each day's training activities.
"We wash them at the end of the day and re-use them," he said.
The North West Hospital and Health Service posted this video to show the end results of creatively saving supplies while practising how to safely put on and remove PPE.
"Big shout out to the ladies who found out we were practising with party masks and took it upon themselves to lovingly sew over 60 PPE 'practice' kits for our teams," the NWHHS said.
