Council is contacting hundreds of local businesses and is also encouraging all interested businesses to submit an impact statement, which will help give Council a better idea as to how COVID-19 restrictions have affected them.
"Mount Isa was established in 1923, several years after the deadly Spanish Flu pandemic had already passed, so the city really has never seen anything like this before," Mayor Danielle Slade said.
"We are in unprecedented times and it's important we make informed decisions."
Cr Slade said the Queensland government had put COVID-19 restrictions in place in accordance with directions and recommendations made by the Chief Health Officer in the best interests of health, safety and wellbeing.
"However, these restrictions have understandably affected local businesses, with some having to close temporarily, or drastically change or limit their operations to - for example, bringing in restrictions on the number of people who can be in a shop at any one time, reducing opening hours, or introducing measures to enforce social-distancing practices," she said.
"Council is committed to working with Mount Isa businesses during this unprecedented time and we want to find out what they are facing or going through in this new, unfamiliar environment.
"The impact statements can be as brief or as detailed as you'd like, and the information will greatly assist Council in deciding on the best courses of action in and for our community going forward."
The impact statements can include comments on possible short-term impacts within the next one to three months, possible extended impacts after three months, and any other relevant comments from, or concerns of, business owners or representatives.
"If you don't identify as a business but want to put forward an impact statement, we will definitely accept it," Cr Slade said.
Responses should be sent by Friday, May 8 and should be forwarded either by email to executivereception@mountisa.qld.gov.au or by mail to Executive Reception, Mount Isa City Council, PO Box 815, Mount Isa, QLD 4825.
