Mr Boschoff was recently elected as president of Commerce North West after Nigel Rieck was forced to resign barely months into the role after replacing long-term president Travis Crowther.
Mr Rieck's position at the airport was made redundant due to the downturn in aviation during the COVID-19 crisis.
Commerce North West said they were sad to lose him especially through such difficult circumstances and so early in his presidency.
Mr Boschoff is a manager at mining supplies company Heavymech and he stood for election as Mount Isa mayor in 2016.
He ran a construction company in South Africa for 15 years before moving to Mount Isa in 2009.
Mr Boschoff is in his second year on the Commerce committee and said he has enjoyed getting to know what's happening on the ground.
"From a business prospective, this has been a vital part of planning, and from a personnel prospective, this helps with consumer confidence in Mount Isa," Mr Boschoff said.
Mr Boschoff also spoke about the issues around business in Mount Isa.
"Buying local is one and another is staffing and the ability to trade profitably," he said.
"I would like to see us engaging as a committee through forums with both the two main stakeholders, the Council and MIM, who I believe can support local business better.
"I would like to see the committee having more consultation with the stakeholders of our region."
Mount Isa City Council has invited businesses to complete a survey on COVID-19 impacts by Friday May 8.
