Longreach Mayor Tony Rayner has been elected chair of the Remote Area Planning and Development Board replacing Rob Chandler who lost his position as Barcaldine mayor at the March 28 elections.
The new RAPAD board is made up of all the Mayors from the seven councils of the central west who were ratified at the board meeting on Friday and Cr Rayner said it would support all seven member councils and work as a collective group with common interests and challenges.
"RAPAD has worked with neighbouring regions to secure $185 million of state and federal funding for roads across outback Queensland," Cr Rayner said.
"We have worked collectively as the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils to put a COVID stimulus package to the State Government.
"Innovation and energy continue to be our focus as drivers for economic growth."
The other directors are Barcoo Shire Mayor Sally O'Neil, Blackall Tambo mayor Andrew Martin, Barcaldine mayor Sean Dillion, Winton mayor Gavin Baskett, Boulia mayor Rick Britton and Diamantina mayor Robbie Dare.
