Local Buy is a procurement services provider which connects local businesses to local governments and many other organisations. They are inviting Mount Isa businesses to join their supplier-base to help them recover sooner from the impact of COVID-19.
Local Buy customer relationship manager for Mount Isa, Audrey Dobell says there are opportunities available for local businesses across many industries.
"From office stationery, catering, and corporate and PPE clothing to engineering consulting, civil works and waste and water resources, councils and organisations need a whole host of goods and services that local businesses can supply," Ms Dobell said.
"Local Governments want to purchase from suppliers within their regions to help strengthen their local communities and provide stability for local businesses."
Ms Dobell said they wanted to make it as easy as possible for local governments and organisations to connect with their local business community.
"The impact of COVID-19 on businesses in Mount Isa has been enormous. They have been in lockdown with FIFO workers restricted from entering and spending their money in the local economy," she said.
"We need to keep our local businesses open by supporting them through this difficult time. Our community spirit is our best asset."
Ms Dobell said being a Local Buy supplier offered businesses more visibility to councils, government bodies and large organisations.
Local Buy CEO Peter Mifsud says further support will be on offer for local business suppliers.
"Local governments alone spend $600 million through Local Buy arrangements. We are offering a gateway for local businesses to regrow and expand," Mr Mifsud said.
"We offer a one-to-many relationship which priorities local businesses as a first choice.
"We have introduced a Small and Regional Business' Support Package as well to provide financial relief to eligible small businesses through waiving the first-year's administration fee and providing a credit for rebates payable in quarter one of the 2021 financial year.
"This support has also been extended to suppliers who are newly appointed a Local Buy Arrangement. Through our Grow Local initiative, they will have the first-year's administration fee waived as well."
