Initially due to take place last weekend, the reduction burn of the Mount Isa riverbed was delayed a week due to the rain, and rescheduled for this Saturday, May 30.
However a test burn during the week was not successful and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has postponed it again.
Rural Fire Service Area Director Fiona Quirk said they did a test burn on Wednesday and the fire did not carry.
"It was too wet so we didn't get the results we needed," Ms Quirk said.
"We will reconvene a meeting in the middle of June to give the vegetation a chance to dry out a bit more and we'll make a decision then as to when to do the burn."
The burn is part of Operation Cool Burn, a state government initiative to mitigate bushfire risk which identified the Leichhardt riverbed as a hotspot.
