Due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused the cancellation of the Show, Council has chosen to repeal its show holiday that was scheduled for June 12 and has made a request to the Queensland Government for Cloncurry to participate in the People's Long Weekend on Friday August 14.
Mayor Greg Campbell said that with the recent relaxation of restrictions, this would be an opportunity for many people to make plans for the long weekend.
"It'll be a one off, because the show will be back bigger and better next year," Cr Campbell said.
"The People's Long Weekend will be an opportunity to unwind, invite family and friends to visit, go camping or have a couple of fun nights out in town but maintaining social distancing rules.
"The COVID-19 threat is not gone, but if people continue to follow appropriate restrictions and health advice, we'll be back to normal soon."
