Despite the cancelling of most events in the 2020 social season, Cloncurry Shire Council is quietly confident of going ahead with this year's Beat the Heat Festival on September 11-13.
In previous years the event has included a street party, cook off, cart racing, live entertainment, horse racing, rodeo, kids superhero scramble and markets, but mayor Greg Campbell was unsure of the restrictions that would be in place for these events.
"Things are looking promising for Queensland and the Outback," Cr Campbell said.
"Depending on the government restrictions at the time, we may need to limited crowds, but whatever restrictions there are at the time we will work in with."
Cr Campbell said if there was a cap on patrons it is something council would manage.
"We will have people wanting to max this event out," he said.
"After the year that everyone has had, we didn't want to cancel this event. I think people deserve to be rewarded by having a good function.
"Events have been few and far between, so the ones that are able to be held are going to be crackers."
Cr Campbell said it would be disappointing to not have as many visitors for this year's event.
"We still may not have a lot of visitors here for it," he said.
"Which is one of the aims of Beat the Heat originally, was to give our locals something to look forward to and give visitors a reason to be here, which means we get that added economic input from them."
