The first game saw the Buffs get grand final revenge over the Tigers in a low scoring contest.
After the first quarter the Buffs were up by 19 points with the scores at 27 to Tigers 8.
Tigers captain Mitch Godfrey said the opening half was a bit scratchy.
"Yeah it was a rough first round having had so long off and a lot of new players who've never played," Godfrey said.
"First half was slow but we came out and won the third quarter and ran out of legs in the last."
Final score was Buffs 10.14. (74) Tigers 7.3. (45).
In the second game the Rhinos came out with early intent and managed to keep it up all game. Rhinos ended the first quarter up by 32 points with scores at 38 to Rovers 6.
The Rhinos finished the game up by a mammoth 111 points off the back of Ben Ryan's six goals and Andrew Wilkinsons three with the final score reading Rhinos 20.20 (130) to Rovers 3.1. (19).
Rhinos coach Tom Wilsdon said it was a great start to the season.
"We won the contested footy and put pressure on the scoreboard early," Wilsdon said.
"Credit to the boys for fighting hard all day as it wasn't easy in that heat.
"Unfortunately as well as the scoreboard looked good for us, we suffered a big loss with Patrick Catford breaking his collarbone in the first five minutes off the game. Miraculously he still managed to kick a goal between breaking his collarbone and coming off the field.
"He'll be a big loss for next weeks game against, the team to beat, the Buffs, but we have a couple of handy players coming back into the side so we'll see how we go."
This week the Tigers will take on the Rovers at 12.30pm which will be followed by Rhinos up against Buffs at 2.30pm
