Last week the Bureau of Meteorology predicted Mount Isa would experience temperatures five degrees below average, caused by a slow moving pressure system.

Minimum temperatures got as low as 2.4 degrees on July 15, making it the coldest night of the year.

The weekend also experienced more cold weather, with Saturday's overnight temperature of 3.5 degrees and Sunday 3 degrees.

But these temperatures are nowhere near breaking the 1984 July record of -2.9 degrees.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said the locals can expect a slight reprieve this week as temperatures rise.

"Things are set to improve with maximum temperatures of 26-27 degrees," he said.

"Overnight temperatures should return to average July conditions, around the 8-10 degree mark.

"There is no rain predicted for the North West, but in the Gulf and at Hughenden there is a chance of rain on Wednesday."

Mount Isa is expected to reach a top of 26 degrees on Tuesday with a low of 10 degrees, Wednesday a top of 26 and low of 9, Thursday a top of 27 and a low of 9, Friday a top of 28 and low of 11, Saturday a top of 28 and a low of 13 and Sunday a top of 26 and a low of 9.

Lake Moondarra is currently sitting at 75.01 per cent and Lake Julius is 8.58 per cent.
