Outback By The Sea Festival promises to fill foodie festival cravings and deliver a mouth-watering experience when it runs from September 26 to October 5.
The festival follows on from last year's Barra and Blues Festival at the Barra Discovery Centre and celebrates Karumba's legendary local barramundi and superb seafood from their stunning shores finishing off with the three-day annual Fishing Classic on the long weekend.
Carpentaria Share Council Tourism General Manager Verena Olesch said the event kicks off on Saturday, September 26 with the official opening of the new hatchery at the Centre and its associated "love shack", the barra breeding tank, the only hatchery in the world to breed the Southern Gulf Strain of the fish.
"We will also be running tours through the facility," Ms Olesch said.
There will be a free concert later that day at the Centre headlined by Adam Harvey followed by a week of gourmet food stalls and workshops - where you can master expert cooking techniques or try your hand at the indigenous art of ghost net sculpture making.
Ms Olesch said they were determined to go ahead with the festival despite the pandemic.
"We need some good news, there are so many festivals being cancelled, and we are going to run this within the COVID framework," she said.
"We've got everything in place, we've got the checklists, we'll limit it to 500 people and do some livestreaming."
The concert and fishing classic which bookend the festival will be free this year.
"It will be happening in school holidays and the fishing comp is on the October long weekend." Ms Olesch.
"That's closes off the official barra season on October 8."
While in town festivalgoers can take the Croc and Crab Sunset tour and fill their bellies with local seafood.
