Mayor Greg Campbell said the festival was unlikely to proceed due to the difficulty of making a CovidSafe plan work for the crowds it was likely to attract to the main street in Cloncurry.
"Making a COVIDSafe plan for the amount of people walking is very costly," Cr Campbell said.
"Having been to a couple of events recently in Winton and Longreach, trying to maintain the social distancing requirements at a social event is going to be almost impossible."
The event has not yet been formally cancelled but the mayor said the decision no to go ahead was the most likely outcome.
"We're still planning, because we need to have a level of flexibility but at this stage it is doubtful it will go ahead," he said.
The news is a blow to the town which missed out on its annual Curry Merry Muster on the weekend.
In July it looked as if the Beat the Heat festival would go ahead on the weekend of September 11-13.
The festival was introduced in 2018 and in the last two years has brought down the curtain on social events for the winter tourism season.
In previous years the event has included a street party, cook off, mine cart racing, live entertainment, horse racing, rodeo and kids superhero scramble.
