Mr Morris said his mother and father lived near Breakaway Creek and came up to work in town but not in the mines.
"In the early days there used to be a swimming hole there where the creek met the Leichhardt and five houses," Mr Morris said.
Mr Morris's family moved to Tully when he was four but his parents later came back to Mount Isa after the war to run a pie shop, and he followed them, working underground in the mines for 30 years.
"When I finished there I worked at the high school looking after the cleaning ladies," he said.
He is still active working for Meals on Wheels every Tuesday and he is known for his secret scone recipe.
Robbie Katter presented him with a certificate for turning 90 and a bottle of wine at his Mount Isa home where he lives with wife Anne Morris who celebrated her 90th in June.
