During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sue Gardem was creating face masks for family and friends before being approached by local businesswoman Kirstie Winsor to stock them at Country Style Living.
"I was sewing make-up bags and selling them through Country Style Living, when Kirstie approached me and asked if I would be interested in making some masks for the store," Ms Gardem said.
"I had told her about making a few for friends and family when she encouraged me to sell some to locals. At first I didn't know if people would buy them but they are selling fast."
Ms Gardem said she only made a few masks to start, but now they were selling out.
"I have probably made 40 or 50 all together. It took me a while to get this pattern of mask. I researched it when America made masks compulsory and I found the style with the pleats more effective," she said.
"They are all double stitched, with a pipe cleaner in there that helps fit it around the nose.
"I only sew fabrics I like, so that gives me satisfaction. I really sew them as thought I am going to keep it otherwise I wouldn't give them away, let alone sell them."
Ms Gardem said she was now in the process of making the masks size inclusive.
"I am currently making different sizes for children, a man with a beard or someone with a chubbier face," she said.
"The mask fabric needs to be a good quality to start with, thick enough to keep the germs contained but thin enough to be able to breath.
"The masks are beautiful colours, with some floral patterns and designs."
Ms Gardem said the masks were being sold for $14.95 and the response had been positive.
"I think they have been a bit of a hit," she said.
"I bought in half a dozen the other day and they have already been sold.
"They take me about an hour each to make one, because I sew so slowly. I love every one I make and I get self-satisfaction out of that."
If anyone is interested in buying a face masks they can be purchased or ordered through Country Style Living.
