Yelvertoft is going ahead with its event with a Covid safe plan and a maximum of 500 competitors and spectators at the venue 110km northwest of Mount Isa off the Barkly Hwy.
Originally the plan was for a joint Yelvertoft and Saxby Rodeo to be held at Julia Creek but when Saxby pulled out, Yelvertoft decided to go it alone at its home grounds.
Yelvertoft is calling on attendees to abide by social distancing rules for a safe and enjoyable weekend and says anyone experiencing flu like symptoms, a temperature or has traveled to NSW or Victoria in the last 14 days or been in contact with someone with COVID-19 recently should not attend.
The action starts 11am Friday with the maidens for maidens campdraft and the open, novice and juvenile events will go all weekend.
The rodeo starts 10am Saturday with the timed events: team roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, ladies barrels and junior breakaway roping.
The roughstock events start at 3.30pm Saturday with an open bull ride, open saddle bronc ride, poddy calf ride, junior barrel race and junior bull ride.
"We are following the ACA and NRCA COVID-19 anagement plans, meaning we can have 500 people on the grounds. Competitors will get preference," the Rodeo said.
"Gates will be locked on the Friday afternoon, however there will be a number for competitors only to call if you are late to be let in."
