BOM mapping shows much of Queensland and large parts of NSW, South Australia and Victoria having an 80 per cent chance of receiving above average rain during spring.
However, after the showers and rain predicted for today and tomorrow, the rest of August looks set to be dry for most of Queensland.
For the rest of today, BOM says there is a slight to medium chance of showers in western and southern districts. This will increase to a high to very high chance of showers tending to rain in the south west and southern interior, with a chance of gusty thunderstorms.
It will be mostly sunny elsewhere with a very high fire danger in the central west.
On Saturday a cold front and trough system will move across central and southern districts.
BOM says there is slight to medium chance of showers over the southern interior and central districts, increasing to high to very high over the south east.
Rain over the south east interior during the morning will ease to showers by the afternoon, with a chance of gusty thunderstorms.
BOM says it will be mostly sunny elsewhere.
There is a risk of morning frost in across the south east on Tuesday and Thursday.
