Mount Isa District police say they are disappointed with the number of drivers caught speeding during an operation this week.

As part of Queensland Road Safety Week 2020, officers from the Mount Isa District Road Policing Unit travelled to Normanton to conduct a three-day traffic enforcement.
Road Policing Officers conducted speed enforcement along the Barkly Highway and Burke Developmental Road and stopped a worrying number of drivers intercepted travelling over the speed limit.
One driver was allegedly detected travelling at 102km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h is deemed a Type 2 Offence and carries a penalty of $1245, the loss of 8 demerit points and 6 months suspension.
In total 14 drivers were issued Infringement Notices for speeding;
- 11 drivers issued infringements for driving over the speed limit between 13km/h - 20km/h
- 2 drivers issued infringements for driver over the speed limit between 20km/h - 30km/h
- 1 driver issued an infringements for driver over the speed limit by 40km/h
Acting Sergeant Paul Quinlan, Road Policing Unit said police remind all road users that speeding is considered one of the Fatal Five and every 'K' over is a killer.
"Please take note of and obey the speed limits," A/Sgt Quinlan said.
