The prestigious Queensland Training Awards recognises and celebrates Vocational Education and Training (VET) across the state, showcasing the success stories of Queensland apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers and trainers, training providers and employers.
General Manager Health Safety Environment and Community, Maryann Wipaki, said the award acknowledged the Apprenticeship Program that had been integral in training and developing tradespeople for over 50 years.
"We have a robust Apprenticeship Program that provides trade opportunities for over 40 placements every year in a multitude of electrical and mechanical engineering fields. They are open to school leavers, mature age, local, out of town and Indigenous applicants with many of our existing tradespeople also taking the opportunity to complete dual trades," Ms Wipaki said.
"We are proud of the consistent results produced in recent years, achieving a completion rate in excess of ninety percent, as well as employing approximately ninety percent of apprentices who successfully complete their training."
Apprentice training and retention plays a vital role in contributing to the productivity and profitability of our Queensland Metals business. We dedicate a great deal of time and effort into training well-qualified, competent apprentices with the aim of retaining people regionally, building the sustainability of our community and providing job opportunities to locals.
"I would like to thank our dedicated Human Resources team, the Apprentice Coordinators, training professionals, Supervisors and experienced tradespeople who drive the program and provide ongoing support and guidance to our apprentices on their path to becoming fully qualified tradespeople," Ms Wipaki said.
We look forward to sharing the results of the Queensland Training Awards State Final on 18 September.
