The roadhouse suffered a major fire overnight on Monday though thankfully no one was hurt.
Roadhouse owner and Diamantina Shire Mayor Robbie Dare said the roof had collapsed and 95 percent of the building was destroyed in the fire which started around 3.30am Tuesday morning.
The fire affected the shop, restaurant and petrol station leaving the area with no fuel in the 400km stretch between Birdsville and Boulia.
Cr Dare said they are waiting on insurance to arrive on Thursday make an assessment before deciding on an immediate plan.
"We need advice from the insurance assessor whether we can replace the cold rooms and freezers straight away which would give us something to store the product, then we'll be able to make some kind of temporary shop," Cr Dare said.
Longer term Cr Dare said he wanted to rebuild the roadhouse with most of it needing to be knocked down.
"We'll definitely rebuild as long as the insurance is alright. We built it in around 1993, I think it is one of the best roadhouses in Queensland," he said.
"We'd have to knock down about 70% of it at least. I tried to ring my old mate who built it in the first place to see if he knows how to build it again but he's not answering me at the moment.
Cr Dare said it was possible electrical damage that caused the fire though they were fortunate in some respect.
"It could have been a lot worse if it got to the fuel or the gas bottles," he said.
