Erwin started dialysis on 12 January 2007 and has been receiving treatment three times a week for the last 12 years, becoming a much-loved patient.
Erwin is a Cloncurry local and came to the North West to work on the roads in 1966 where he met and married the love of his life, Lorna.
Erwin and Lorna have been married 54 years and are leaving Mount Isa as Lorna has secured a spot in a Townsville nursing home.
"Lorna has always been with me, for all the dialysis treatments over time. She was always sitting here beside me. So, now I need to go and be with her when she needs me," he said.
"I want to thank the Renal Unit nurses for the amazing help and support they have given me over the years. It's sad for them and sad for me. They treat me like family. We've become really close over the years."
