Sydney's Powerhouse Museum is building a collection about the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the nation, which will include PPE made by Australian fashion labels, safety messages written on old car bonnets in Indigenous languages, and learning from home teaching material in English, Arabic, Dari and Turkish.
The Westmead Institute for Medical Research has partnered with the museum to ensure the important search for a vaccine for the virus is documented too.
"It is so important to document this period and protect the moments and milestones, so that future generations can learn from our experiences," Director of the Centre for Virus Research at WIMR Professor Tony Cunningham said in a statement.
Medical and scientific material related to the development of a the vaccine, contact tracing research and technology, and stories from lead researchers and the patients with whom they are working, will also be included in the collection.
Parts of the collections are already available for online viewing at the Powerhouse Museum's website.
