Mount Isa Cancer House provides a headquarters for four main organisations, to enable them to meet and carry out activities in a secure and dignified way.
Mount Isa Mines has provided funding for the Cancer House headquarters, through until 2024, giving the groups a secure future for the venue.
Located near the Alma Street Crossing, Mount Isa Cancer House is the headquarters for North West Queensland Prostate Cancer Support Group, Mount Isa and North West Queensland Breast Cancer Support Group, the Mount Isa Men's Shed, Leukaemia Foundation and other similar organisations which need meeting facilities.
Chair of Mount Isa Cancer House Sub-committee Father Mick Lowcock said the management committee was delighted to accept the sponsorship from Mount Isa Mines to ensure the group is functional into the future for this important place in Mount Isa.
"The combining of the four groups: North West Queensland Prostate Cancer Support Group; Mount Isa & North West QLD Breast Cancer Support Group; the Mount Isa Men's Shed and Leukaemia Foundation to run Cancer House, ensures all issues associated with the House are dealt with efficiently and in a transparent manner," Fr Lowcock said.
"This grant enables the funds raised by each of these groups to be used wisely for the purposes they are intended - those who have ill-health in North West Queensland."
Fr Lowcock said the funds needed for the running of Cancer House were now well catered for by this grant.
"I, for one, have benefited from the support of the Prostate Cancer Support Group, and we certainly try to offer support to anyone known to us who has had prostate cancer," he said.
"There are individual meetings for each of these organisations. If anyone wanted to be in touch with these organisations please make yourself, or the needs of others, known to us.
We are willing to support anyone who approaches us, both financially in a limited way, and personally in any way we can."
