COVID-19 lock down saw an early end to the rugby union season, with the grand final being suspended until the 20-21 season.
MIRU president Justin Nielsen said the club was ready to start back up and had last year's grand final coming up in a few weeks time.
"The season will kick off this Friday with a 10s competition," Mr Nielsen said.
"It is a bit of fun and warm up for the full season ahead. We will play the first round on October 17 and then October 24 we will have last year's grand final between Keas and Euros."
Mr Nielsen said it would be an interesting grand final to witness.
"It will be an interesting grand final as there has never been one like it, where we have had to postpone the season and give the players a big break.
"Both clubs still wanted to have a grand final so it should be good. They are a couple of powerhouse clubs so it will be one not to be missed."
Following last year's grand final, the regular season will continue until Christmas break when there will be no games for six weeks.
"We will come back in late January and start off with the Superhero Sevens round on January 30," Mr Nielsen said.
"The season will then continue, and we expect to have our 2021 grand final around the 24th of March.
"We have managed to schedule it so we will get in a full season of rugby, despite COVID-19 ending last season short."
Mr Nielsen said the four main teams Euros, Cloncurry, Warrigals and Keas would continue playing this year with some some teams already commencing training.
"Cloncurry have been training up a storm and I hear that Keas have started as well, I haven't heard anything from Euros and Warrigals have been down to training but numbers were low," he said.
"We had a working bee last weekend, so it was good to go down to the grounds and start getting the field ready to the commencement of the season this Friday."
The MIRU 10s competition will kick off at 6.30pm on Friday October 9 at the Rugby Union grounds on Alma Street.
