President of the committee of the Cancer House Fr Mick Lowcock said they would invite family, friends and loved ones of those who have died of cancer to donate a rose bush to be planted in the garden in their memory.

Fr. Mick said that as a result of the generous financial agreement which the Committee had entered into with Glencore the future of Cancer House was secure for many years to come and this proposal would enable relatives and friends to donate a Rose bush in memory of the deceased person.

"This gesture will also enhance the grounds of Cancer House and allow family and friends of the deceased persons to visit the area and reflect on their departed family member or friend," Fr Mick said.

"And hopefully it would encourage other members of the community to consider what they as individuals can do in the fight against the various cancers which affect so many people."

The organisations which are tenants of Cancer House are the Mount Isa and North West Queensland Breast Cancer Support Group, North West Queensland Prostate Cancer Support Group, Mount Isa branch of the Leukaemia Foundation and The Mount Isa Men's Shed.

Fr Mick invited members of the public to join in the discussion as to how the community could further assist people with cancer and he also said that the Mount Isa Service Clubs could give consideration to assist in the development of the Rose Garden as a project for their members.
