Last weekend Gulf C4C was announced as a winner of a Change Maker award for the Best Customer Focus for small to medium businesses in Container Refund Points across the state.

The Containers for Change scheme offers 10 cent refunds for the return of eligible containers at CRPs across Queensland and has collected more than 2.5 billion containers since inception two years ago.

At the second annual Change Maker awards, Gulf C4C's determination to service their vast area of north-western Queensland was a compelling factor in the award win.

The extra effort that Gulf C4C makes to ensure the small population has access to recycling has saved over 11 million beverage containers from heading to landfill.

Gulf C4C CRP operator Annie Cork said they cover a huge area and there is only a population of 2700.

"When we go out to those more-remote places, we do a personalised service as there is a lot elderly people who we don't really want to have to drive all the way into Normanton," Ms Cork said.

"Out our way we have some very challenging roads to travel on and some very interesting characters."

Ms Cork said the scheme has been a wonderful thing for the region and has made a positive difference to Gulf communities.

"It has generated a lot of money back into the community and it has cleaned up the environment," she said.

The Change Maker Awards was held as a virtual ceremony, with MC and Channel 7 presenter and former Queensland Origin rugby league player Shane Webcke interviewing the Gulf C4C crew during the livestream.
