The Normanton Rodeo committee paid tribute to Walter Baker, who tragically passed away at the Burke and Wills Rodeo last month, by installing a memorial at the Normanton rodeo grounds.
Walter was one of rodeo's greatest personalities and regularly attended events including the Normanton Rodeo, Burke and Wills Rodeo, Cloncurry Merry Muster and other events around the region.
Normanton Rodeo posted the photo of the memorial to their Facebook page saying, "Normanton Rodeo - and a lot of other shows - won't be the same without you."
The memorial has received enormous support on social media, stating it was a perfect tribute for a man taken too soon.
A minute silence was held before the commencement of the Normanton rodeo events, and the winners of the open bronc ride, Luke Chaplain and Tyler Chong, donated their buckle and ribbons to the family of Walter Baker.
