The Outback Queensland Tourism Association has congratulated event organisers of the Outback Queensland Masters, with the golf series taking out Best New Event at the prestigious Australian Event Awards and Symposium last week.

The inaugural 2019 event took place over six outback courses finishing with the Million Dollar Hole in Once competition in Mount Isa.
The big prize failed to go off but the competition did and OQTA chief executive Denise Brown said it had attracted more than 800 competitors from all over Australia generating hundreds of room nights and plenty of interest from new markets.
"I congratulate Golf Australia, Cre8ion, Weatherall Golf, Krista Hauritz and Tourism and Events Queensland who have collaborated to deliver a truly innovative event for Outback Queensland," Ms Brown said.
"It's wonderful to see their achievement recognised with an Australian Event Award against a strong field of candidates from right across the nation and across all facets of the events industry."
Spanning 1600 kilometres across Queensland's Outback, the 2019 Masters series gave competitors a chance to tee off at Roma, Charleville, Longreach, Winton, Boulia and Mount Isa courses while vying for the world's largest amateur prize pool.
"For our towns and golf clubs, the series delivered a much needed financial boost following years of drought, along with wonderful entertainment for the whole community to enjoy," Ms Brown said.
"And while the 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID-19, we're expecting even bigger crowds to head west for the 2021 series in Biloela, Charleville, Quilpie, Blackall, Hughenden and finally Longreach for the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge."
