The Queensland Police Service is managing the distribution of $2 million of State Government funding committed under the Queensland Government's Five-Point Action Plan to reduce youth crime and re-offending.
As part of the 5PP, the QPS has led the development of 10 Community Based Crime Action Committees to oversee distribution of the funding with $200,000 available for the Mount Isa region.
Superintendent Rhys Newton said the Mount Isa CBCAC was calling for applications from local community members and groups, to deliver programs that build positive relationships between communities and young people.
"The scope for eligible programs is quite broad. They may include improvements to local facilities, community sporting groups, social activities, or culture-based rehabilitation," Superintendent Newton said.
"Eligible programs will address the complex cultural, social and economic factors that contribute to youth offending in the local community."
Superintendent Newton said the QPS was committed to supporting community-based solutions.
"We are calling for input from local communities to address the complex causes of youth offending in their area," he said.
"The involvement of local community members and grass-roots organisations is critical to the success of this initiative, to ensure programs are developed for the needs of the area.
"We want to work closely with the local community to ensure the funding goes to projects designed to both improve community safety and reduce youth incarceration."
