Due to the continued risk and uncertainty of COVID-19, 2021 will be the second consecutive year that the famous outback event has been cancelled, with COVID-19 making planning one of the biggest volunteer run event in Outback Queensland a huge challenge.
A newly appointed committee said they would look at reigniting and reinventing the community owned event for the future and are calling on any member of the community who wished to get involved moving forward to put their hands up and get involved.
Julia Creek Dirt n Dust new president Nathan James-Laneyrie said the executive committee had spent some time over the past couple of months talking with the council and the community who wished to get involved moving forward to put their hands up and get involved.
"Whilst this is obviously very disappointing for those who were looking forward to this year's Dirt n Dust, it needs to be put in perspective against Australia's fight against the Coronavirus, and the wide-ranging impacts of having a totally new committee appointed," Mr James-Laneyrie said.
"During these difficult times we all need some hope and we all still have dreams. That is what keeps us going. To keep these hopes and dreams alive, our passionate and dedicated Dirt n Dust committee are now moving forward and focusing on the community planning needed to deliver the best Dirt n Dust Festival in the future."
The Julia Creek Dirt N Dust Festival has won many awards such as the best festival at the Qld Tourism awards, runner up for the Australian Tourism Awards.
Working with all levels of government the committee now have a permanent 400K home which is part of the Julia Creek Community Precinct- Home of the Dirt n Dust. The committee said this would take the strain off volunteers with minimise costs in the future.
