Mount Isa Campdraft Association has commenced 2021 at top speed, preparing for their upcoming season while supporting a worthwhile cause.
MICA held a working bee on January 30 followed by their AGM and charity pink stumps fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation on Saturday February 6.
MICA secretary Leeusha Finlay said the AGM saw a committee shuffle with two long standing committee members outgoing.
"This year John Murphy has stepped down as our long-serving president, and Lisa Pratt has stepped down as secretary," Ms Finlay said.
"John was one of the founding members and part of the crew who originally got it off the ground and put in a lot of hours over the years. Unfortunately with his work schedule it's starting to get a bit much so he has handed over the reins to incoming president Sam Iraci.
"Lisa has been a great help to our club over the years and assisted with many funding applications for the club, I have since filled her position. We would like to recognise John and Lisa and the hard work they have put in over the years.
"There are also vacant positions available including treasurer and events coordinator, if anyone is looking to help."
Ms Finlay said following the AGM the club held a Pink Stumps event to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.
"February 6 lined up with the official pink stumps day in support of the McGrath Foundation, we thought we would do something fun with our cricket day in the arena," she said.
"Most of us have horses spelling, out of work or no shoes on, so it was a good opportunity to have some fun that didn't require a horse.
"We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and it's great to support the cause and raise $1000 for the foundation."
With a new committee sworn in, Ms Finlay said they had locked in dates for their event in July.
"We are working towards hosting our annual campdraft on the second weekend of July, pending cattle conditions, weather conditions and COVID-19 conditions.
"As it stands we are planning an event, however there are so many contributing factors to hosting this event and cattle condition will be the biggest factor leading up to July.
"We will also organise a few practice days ahead of our event."
Mount Isa Campdraft will be held from July 8-11.
