As part of Council's and the Department of Transport and Main Roads' Principal Cycle Network Program, some footpaths in Mount Isa will be upgraded and widened to transform them into shared pedestrian and bicycle paths.
Three areas are currently being delivered, including Thomson Rd, Transfield Ave and Twenty-Third Ave.
The Thomson Road works, between Transfield Avenue and Duchess Road, will begin in the coming weeks and should take about two months to complete.
The works involve footpath and nature strip upgrades, to facilitate the construction of the shared path.
Driveways will be upgraded from the back of the kerb to properties' boundaries.
Residents seeking further details about Principal Cycle Network Plans should register to attend a community information session next week.
The information evening will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, February 23, from 6pm.
Council's Infrastructure department will provide details about the project, including how it will benefit the community.
People who wish to attend the information session are asked to register by emailing technicalservices@mountisa.qld.gov.au. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a limit on the number of attendees will be in place.
