The six-week tournament across the outback began in 2019 culminating with a One Million Dollar hole-in-one challenge in Mount Isa which while it failed to go off, generated a lot of tourist revenue and good will.
It fell victim to the pandemic in 2020 and this year will visit Hughenden and Longreach, but next year it seems set to come back to Mount Isa, though not for the million dollar challenge weekend.
At its meeting on Wednesday, Mount Isa City Council resolved to support the city as a venue for the Masters in 2021.
The meeting heard Golf Australia had sent Council a proposal to be a host city.
The format is two rounds of nine holes at Mount Isa Golf Club on the Saturday and then the Sunday with a PGA professional providing coaching at each venue.
Council approved the proposal to be a host city and agreed to provide sponsorship of $20,000 to be an event partner.
The event will take place on the weekend of July 16-17.
The timing would make Mount Isa the fifth of six locations in 2022 with the million dollar challenge to be held at a yet to be disclosed venue a week later.
However the council meeting also heard the Council was in discussion with Golf Australia to re-nominate Mount Isa as the million dollar challenge location in the following year, 2023 - Mount Isa's centenary year.
