The Post Office Hotel in Cloncurry hosted its first ever Mardi Gras party last year, and it was such a success they're doing it again this year.
Publican Trevor Jones said the Post Office had received a great response from locals at last year's Mardi Gras bash that he had invited five drag queens this year for a bigger and better celebration.
"We have two drag queens coming from Sydney, Izzy Goode and Kanibal Kitty are coming back and two new drag queens, Wanda D'Parke and Katya Louking, are coming out of Brisbane," Mr Jones said.
"However our major drawcard this year is Australian cabaret star Hans the German who is our Mardi Gras ambassador, MC and performer.
"We are super excited to have Hans come out to Cloncurry. I saw him on Sunrise just last week, he is always a larger than life personality so I think we will bring an added lift to the event.
"When Has was originally told they were sending him to Mardi Gras he was excited about the big celebrations. He soon realised he was coming to Cloncurry, so he now knows where Cloncurry is and is looking forward to come and join in the experience."
The event wil start with a meet and greet on Friday March 5, with doors opening at 6pm ad shows at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm and 11pm.
Saturday is the main event with doors opening at 5pm and we have "Balls out Bingo" at 6pm, "Tranny Trivia" at 7pm and shows at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm and 11pm again.
By hosting this event, Mr Jones said it provided an opportunity for Outback patrons to experience the Mardi Gras.
"In 2017/18 we took the Outback to Mardi Gras and we had a country crowd float, with a mechanical bull and country singer on the back of a truck, which got a lot of attention. So in 2020 we decided to bring Mardi Gras to the Outback," he said.
"This year is a continuation on from our inaugural event last year and it provides something different for the people of the North West that may not have the opportunity to go to Mardi Gras in Sydney and that's why we host it on the same weekend and join in.
"We have had a lot of interest from Cairns through to Brisbane and Mount Isa as well as local interest. It has been phenomenal we have had people contacting us every day."
Mr Jones said there were still some patron restrictions in place.
"We are a bit restricted on the number of people, only allowing 350 people with our COVID Safe Plan, it's not a ticketed event, so first in best dressed," he said.
"At the moment accommodation is a bit of a problem in town with the Australian Survivor crew setting up so they have booked out a lot of accommodation."
