A day after Council voted to award enhanced sponsorship funding to the Show, Mayor Danielle Slade and Cr Peta MacRae went to Buchanan Park to meet with Show and Race Club officials to look at where potential upgrades to the Buchanan Park facility might occur.
Council said upgrades could potentially include the establishment of a new multi-use poultry shed, internal fencing of the racetrack, as well as the upgrade of infrastructure for the existing toilet facilities as well as a new toilet facility.
Council said it would continue to work with the Mount Isa Race Club, Show Society and and MICCOE (Mount Isa City Council Owned Enterprises) to ensure there is adequate infrastructure to meet the different needs of the groups that use the facility.
It followed a decision to grant the Show $32,500 in sponsorship at the Wednesday February 24 meeting of council.
Council said this was more than granted in previous years but they were showing support for the Show which had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The Show will be held June 18-19 this year.
At the same meeting Council agreed to provide sponsorship of $10,000 for Mount Isa to be a host city of the Outback Golf Masters in 2022.
Council also voted to approve RADF funding of $9383 to the Mount Isa Police for their project "Mount Isa Police Station Yarning Circle".
