Share the Dignity's Dignity Vending Machines, known as 'Pinkboxes', dispense free packs of two pads and six tampons, with a programmed delay of 10 minutes to ensure no packs are wasted. The period packs allow women and girls to manage their period with dignity, without having to ask for help.
Epic Good Foundation Co-Founder Cathie Reid AM said they partnered with like-minded organisations to support improved health outcomes for all Australians.
"Sponsoring this Pinkbox, alongside four others, is a practical and effective way to ensure women and girls can access pads and tampons to manage their period with the dignity that everyone deserves," Ms Reid said.
Spinifex State College Deputy Principal Nicole Clauson said the support was welcomed for students who may be struggling to access period products when they need them.
"The Pinkbox machine has been incredibly beneficial for our students who do not have access to sanitary items," Ms Clauson said.
"We have noticed a significant number of students utilising the machine and less having to ask for sanitary products."
One student said the machine was really helpful when they needed to get pads.
"It's helped a lot of girls at school who don't get them at home and some girls feel embarrassed and don't come to school when they get their period so it's really helpful for them too," the student said.
The Pinkbox has vended almost 300 period packs, showing the need for this service in the community. This is the second Dignity Vending Machine to be installed in Mount Isa, with the first installed at the Mount Isa Neighbourhood Centre.
Share the Dignity Founder Rochelle Courtenay wants more Dignity Vending Machines for those in need in Australia.
"At Share the Dignity, we believe access to pads and tampons is a right, not a privilege," Ms Courtenay said.
"Through our Pinkboxes we can help a woman in need have one less thing to worry about when times are tough. We now have 205 Pinkboxes nationally, with 51 of these installed in schools thanks to the generosity of sponsors such as the Epic Good Foundation."
