Emma Harman was elected president of Commerce North West on Tuesday March 9, one of many changes to the board of directors.
Alongside Ms Harman, Jessica James was elected as the new secretary, Joe Castellano as continuing treasurer and other board members included Brian Atherinos, Bernie Harnett, Justine Cole and Chris Boshoff.
Ms Harman said six board positions were vacant leading into the AGM.
"Four members of the board had to stand down as they had completed their term, and an additional two who chose to stepped back. That left six of seven positions available," she said.
"We then secured six nominations ahead of the AGM which meant that we didn't have to vote the board members in. The board then elected the executive positions, in-line with our constitution."
Ms Harman said she was excited and positive about where Commerce North West was headed.
"I have a vision of where I would like to see Commerce be placed in the community. Not just Mount Isa but the whole North West and I am really keen to involve us as an organisation outside of Mount Isa and to engage a more meaningful connection with the North West," she said.
"I would like to re-establish connections with surrounding communities, initially by reaching out through Councils and also the Department of State Development and The Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone (MITEZ), as we already have a great working relationship with those networks."
Ms Harman said her first priority in the coming months was to continue preparations for MineX.
"We last held the biennial event in 2019 and it is returning in 2021, on June 9-10," she said.
"We had a lot of interest about if we were going to host the event this year and we felt it was really important to do it for the region.
"The 2021 MineX Roadshow is going ahead and it will be modelled like previous events."
Ms Harman said the event would be re-modelled to an annual event in 2022.
"We wanted to shift back to having an annual event to keep momentum. We felt like we were losing momentum by having it every second year," she said.
"We felt like there was a need in the region for more engagement and a forum styled event with guest speakers and for people in the industry to come together."
