At an Ordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday March 17, Council passed the motion to provide limited membership to the 100 Year Celebration Advisory Committee.
The committee includes community and business representatives who will assist with the administration of the 2023 100 Year Celebrations for Mount Isa.
These include:
- Ron McCullough (Chair)
- Maryann Wipaki (Mining)
- Garry Murray (Tourism)
- Steve Carson (Event Organiser)
- Kath Donnelly (Education/Community)
- Emma Harman (Commerce)
- Tammy Parry (State Government employee)
- Sherrie Tuppurainen (Rotary)
- Kaye Smith (Indigenous)
- Natalie Flecker (Rodeo Manager)
- Tara Bell (Kalkadoon); and
- Mount Isa City Council Councillors.
Tourism, Events, Sport and Recreation and Library Councillor Peta MacRae said interested persons were invited to nominate themselves and the Chair and other members of Council selected the committee.
"I am really happy with the people they've selected, it has given us a good cross representation of the community, including different community organisations, industries and stakeholders.
"I think there are a broad range of people that have been selected with different experience.I think the selectors have done a great job. I wasn't part of that selection process but I don't think I would have picked anyone different."
Cr MacRae said now the committee had been finalised, planning could continue.
"Firstly we will have to go about having meetings together as a committee. The committee will then consult on what events we could see throughout the year," she said.
"There has been some consultation already around planning of events, due to some funding rounds available through the government for large events. So Council has already put in submissions for some events that we would like to see happen."
For those who missed out on the advisory committee positions, Cr MacRae said there could be future roles on sub-committees.
"I am sure a lot of people applied and some may be disappointed that they missed out but there is always going to be the option to have sub- advisory committees for different focus areas.
"So just because they haven't been selected on this committee that they wont be selected for one later."
