Founded in 2015 as the home for Relay for Life, Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer, the Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer are still there and have been joined by the Mount Isa Mens Shed and the Leukaemia Foundation.
Former Mayor Tony McGrady said Mount Isa City Council owned the building and it had been standing empty for some time.
"When I returned as Mayor after my 17 years in the State Parliament I hit on the idea of letting some of the groups in the city use it as their headquarters," Mr McGrady said.
"A Management Committee was formed to administer the House with a rep. from each organisation and the building is now leased from the Council."
Last September Cancer House received a boost with Glencore sponsoring the House with a grant of $5000 a year to be reviewed every five years.
Now there is a new plan to beautify the area and give the community a new resource.
Mr McGrady said there was a substantial garden area in front of Cancer House and recently the Mount Isa Apex Club commenced working every Sunday morning cleaning up the Garden and installing an irrigation system.
"We are investigating a plan to establish a rose garden where we will invite members of the public to donate a rose bush in memory of a relative who has died from cancer," he said.
"Already the Zonta Club of Mount Isa have agreed to donate a number of rose bushes to get the scheme up and running."
On Sunday the House held a morning tea as a thank you to the Apex Club for their work in developing the garden as well as to the Zonta club.
"The committee of Cancer House would welcome any support from service or other clubs in the city as well as individuals," Mr McGrady said.
