APA said it is currently experiencing an issue with the Diamantina Power Station complex in Mount Isa, which has triggered an interruption to power supply to Mount Isa and surrounding regions.

"APA crews have been mobilised to identify the cause and restore power as soon as possible," they said.

"We will provide updates as soon as they become available."

The power went out around 9.10am Friday and has been down for over two hours so far.

Ergon Energy Outage Finder says 10,000 customers are affected across the region.

"The loss of supply is due to the operating of protective equipment," Ergon said.

Mount Isa City Council said they were aware there is a city-wide power outage that is also affecting Cloncurry and Julia Creek.

"It's anticipated the power will be out for at least the next 2-3 hours," Council said around 10.30am.

"We have generators available to ensure essential services such as water and sewerage remain online."
