The Walk, Ride, Run for Palliative Care Denim and Diamonds Ball is being organised by Tony "Tonka" Toholke in support of Rowena Paine-Murphy and Liz Debney's venture to trek 147 kilometres from Cloncurry to Mount Isa to raise vital funds for a cuddle bed at Mount Isa Hospital.
Mr Toholke said the Denim and Diamonds Ball would be held at the Mount Isa Buffs Club on Saturday June 5 and funds would provide a comfort service to the community.
"These cuddle beds are for family or partners to provide comfort to loved ones at the end of life during a very tough time and cost about $22,000 each," he said.
"I think everyone has been touched one way, shape or form by the loss of a loved one or have experienced palliative care having seen someone or known someone who has gone through it.
"It's a good cause and an asset to the community that will keep on giving to many local families for years to come."
Mr Toholke said with Rowena and Liz treking from Cloncurry to Mount Isa, the fundraising ball provided locals with another avenue to support the cause.
"I will certainly be taking part in the Walk, Ride, Run in July, but others may prefer to donate a different way therefore we are hosting the ball," he said.
"We will have entertainment from David Whitehead, performance from Mount Isa School of Dance, an open auction with items donated from local businesses and raffles to raise money throughout the night.
"After last year's cancellation of events and lock down, it is a chance to put on an event for everyone, get dressed up and also give back to the community.
"Tickets are $95 per ticket with eight per table to meet Covid-19 restrictions. Tickets can be purchased from Matter Property (Miles St)."
