Applications have opened for the 2021 - 2022 Vacation Program intake which runs from November to February at Mount Isa Mines, Ernest Henry Mining and Copper Refineries.
It's designed for full-time university students across Australia who want to put their theoretical learnings into practice. Disciplines include engineering, metallurgy, environmental science, accounting, information technology, human resources, health and safety and many other mining-related disciplines.
Clint Milner, Queensland Metals Group Manager - Human Resources, says it's a great opportunity for local university students to return home to establish their mining careers.
"Our industry-leading and experienced professionals are here to mentor and challenge the vacation students every step of the way and encourage them to test their learning and creativity in real situations." says Clint.
Mount Isa resident Crissa De Sagun, completed vacation work with the geotechnical team from November 2020 - February 2021 during her university holidays. Crissa says the program is an excellent way to combine the opportunity to study in the city, while getting practical experience back home with Queensland Metals.
"Growing up in Mount Isa I was exposed to mining from a young age and was always interested in a mining career. But it wasn't until I commenced vacation work with Queensland Metals that I was really given the opportunity to gain exposure to the operations and understand how it all worked." says Crissa.
The Vacation Program is just one of many pathway programs offered by Queensland Metals. Others include, the Work Experience Program for those currently in Years 11 and 12 locally, the School Leaver Program for those who have completed Year 12 and the Graduate Program for those finishing their tertiary studies.
Applications for the Queensland Metals Vacation Student Program are now open and will close Sunday May 16.
