The realistic exercise was planned to test the Airport Emergency Plan and occurs annually as part of a tabletop or field event.
Role players, aircraft and smoke effects were used in an effort to make the exercise as realistic as possible with a coach standing in for a stricken plane and members of the Christian Outreach Centre got enthusiastically involved in their role play as crew and passengers.
Mount Isa Airport General Manager Brendan Cook said emergency preparation was a key focus for the airport team.
"Field exercises allow us to test our emergency plan in real time, alongside first responders," he said.
"In the unlikely event of an emergency at the airport, our team and agency partners are best positioned to respond effectively."
The exercise was planned around flight schedules and did not impact airport operations or aircraft movements.
