Council was formally advised of the transfer Friday, May 28 two days after a council meeting which heard that approval to use the land on Lake Moondarra Reserve was still stuck with the state government.
Council said the transfer of the land was subject to conditions, such as the completion of a full Environmental Impact Statement and a connection of services to the site including electricity, telecommunications, water and sewer.
Deputy Mayor and Motorsports Park Advisory Committee chair Phil Barwick said Council's next step would be to conduct a full feasibility study of a motorsports facility on the land, on the eastern side of Moondarra Drive after the first cattle grid.
"This is great news for the city and great news for the many motorsports enthusiasts in the community," Cr Barwick said.
"I would like to thank the Mount Isa Water Board for their support during this whole process, as well as the State Government for supporting us in the motorsports concept," Cr Barwick said.
"I'm glad to see that a lot of the administrative processes are now done with, but there is a lot that still needs to be done, including the Environmental Impact Statement on the land.
"Once that's done, down the track we'll look at doing early concept and design work and a business case for the facility before we apply for funding."
Cr Barwick said the project was great for the economic development work Council was doing.
"We'll be looking to move as quickly as we possibly can - however, these things do take time," he said.
Mayor Danielle Slade said she was looking forward to a committee being formed and getting some momentum going.
"We're not running on all cylinders just yet, but it's a great start," Cr Slade said.
"Having the Environmental Impact Statement, concept design and business case will enable Council to drive the agenda when it comes to seeking funding to make this facility a reality."
